My husband and Me

This is Belle, the inspiration for Bellona in Anna’s Song

My biggest blessing

Who am I?

This is the question that fills everything I write. In a time when every identity seems to be called into question, the answer keeps me anchored. It gives me hope. It gives me a future.

I am who God says I am!

He says I am His daughter, redeemed and adopted. He says I’m of utmost value. He says He made me for a special purpose and that purpose is to glorify Him. I don’t always fill those roles well, but He keeps working. Paul reassures me that, “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)

My mother is Puerto Rican and my father an American mix that was predominantly German. I’ve lived in both the U.S. and in Puerto Rico. The clash of cultures is something I love and struggle with.

Because of my island blood, I’m apt to throw my arms around someone and give them a big hug—then my dad’s side comes in and makes me feel like, well, that might be awkward. Better stand back and mind your own business…

Part of me wants everything to be bright and splashy, the other wants everything lined up and perfectly in order. Part of me is easygoing, the other has sparks easily lit. Both give me a love for music and storytelling.

An OB nurse by training, I swore I would never marry a doctor and especially not an obstetrician. Guess who God gave me? I married Doug in college and by the grace of God we are still happy and together, despite his busy OB practice!

We have four children. My husband delivered them all and I was present for three out of the four. (You can ask me later.) Currently, we have nine grands. They are amazing.

I’m an organ donor! God made me just right, so when the time came, I matched with my son who was born with kidney disease. Questions about that, I’m eager to answer.

Travel is my passion, and it ties in well with a love of history. So many times, while visiting some ancient church, I’ve run my hands on the cold, hard pillars, and wished they could talk. I would sit all day and listen to the stories they could tell of people who passed through those grand and sometimes less than grand spaces. Through their tales, I would travel back to those times and places.

Alas, they remain silent, so I make stories for them. Stories of normal people in need of redemption.

The struggles are real. So is God. I hope to show my readers that God loves and pursues, even when we are most undeserving. In Him, there is hope, redemption, and the making of someone new.

Interesting Facts About Me

There was a time I considered myself well-traveled, but then some dear young ladies gave me a Christmas gift. This gift was a map of the world to hang on my wall. Said map has a special scratch-off coating to be removed whenever I visit a particular country. I enthusiastically began scratching away, only to be left with the very depressing fact that I have barely touched what is out there.
Thank you, ladies, for bursting my bubble.

I'm passionate about God and the little things I'm learning about being His.

In 2018 our oldest son went into kidney failure. He was born with kidney disease, so this was not all together a surprise, but it still hit our family pretty hard. I matched and was blessed to be able to donate my spare kidney. I write about out experiences along this road in our lives.

My debut novel, Anna’s Song, came out in November of 2018. Book two, Sofia’s Beauty and Book 3, Jacob’s Path were released in 2023.
I am nuts about travel. Fortunately for me, we have been able to do a good bit with our kids, and have more trips planned. I would love to share some of those adventures with you.

My favorite verse: Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

My motto: Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your site, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”

Favorite food: Puerto Rican rice and beans. (Surprise!)
